(Gast-)Review "Tomboy aka The assignment" von Dragonrage

Yes, I've read and heard that this one is a dud...hell, even my close friend with who I share similar taste in movies said in his review that this one sucks! But you see, Im a big fan of Walter Hill and his work! Plus, this sounded interesting "on the paper", and I actually had a lost of fun with Hill's previous movie, BULLET TO THE HEAD...so yeah, I wanted to see it for myself, especially since if I did like it, it wouldn't be the first time I liked a movie that many others hate...
But the thing is...nope, I didn't liked it! At all...
The best thing (and take that "the best thing" with the grain of salt) about this movie was the story! Story had a lots of potential...but the way it was told and the way some things happen here...well, it killed all the potential there was. All those flashbacks, and the whole going back and fourth, all that made this movie kind of uninteresting and our of focus. And those comic book transitions/editing style didn't helped either...
Unfortunately, not even the action scenes managed to make this exciting to watch, because the action was very static and dull. All there was is Michelle Rodriguez standing there and shooting one or two guns while the bad guys are falling down, and that's it. That was basically every action scene in this movie...
And speaking of Michelle Rodriguez...well, IMO, at first, she was the perfect cast for playing transgendered person/girl, because IMO she always had that manly side in her. But why the hell she also had to play the male version of here character, because lets face it, that fake beard and fake dick didn't fooled anybody! Also, her performance was kind of robust and raw. But then again, non of the performances really stood out in THE ASSIGNMENT. I mean, Sigourney Weaver's performance was cold and rigid, and therefore, here character was kind of faceless. And lets not even talk about Anthony LaPaglia and Tony Shalhoub who are totally wasted here.
Also, Doctors motives really didn't make much sense! I mean, why would that doctor turn dangerous hitman into a woman instead of killing him, or deform him somehow. It would make sense i that hitman raped here or somebody who was close to here...here daughter for example...then turning him into a woman and taking his manhood would make sense...but like this, it was just a gimmick that sounded good on the paper.

Anyway...out of respect for Walter Hill, Im giving this movie extra half a star, but he definitely isn't the same guy who did THE WARRIORS, RED HEAT, 48 HRS., HARD TIMES and many other movies I love. Still, I hope that he will make at least one more movie before he ends his directing career, because it would be a huge shame if he end his career with this movie...

Liegt mir auch vor und wartet auf die Sichtung - und die Prüfung, ob es nun wirklich so schlimm ist, wie unser Mann für Facebook schreibt.
